overview:

The Bandarpoonch and Supin ranges of the Western Garhwal Himalayas contain the Har Ki Doon valley. It is sometimes referred to as the "hanging valley of the gods" and is encircled by snow-capped mountains and alpine greenery. It is one of the most well-liked treks in the Indian Himalayas, comes highly recommended, and is a hikers' dream. Harkidoon serves as the starting point for hikes to Jaundhar Glacier, Black Peak, and Mount Swargarohini. Before reaching Harkidoon Valley, the Jaundhar Glacier is where the River Supin begins.


Morinda lake falls with in the Harkidoon valley trek. Trek starts from Taluka village in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Trail passes through terraced lands, lush green dense forests of Deodar and pine, remote villages of Garhwal, waterfalls, sprawling meadows and picturesque view of Garhwal Himalayas ranges. Trek to Morinda tal is across rocky terrain and sometimes over glaciers also during your hike in off-season. Forests are rich in wildlife and are paradise for bird watchers, nature lovers and wildlife photographers. Valley comes under Govind wildlife Sanctuary. Trek to Morinda tal starts from Harkidoon. With an altitude of 3700 meters Morinda tal also leads a way to experience Barasu pass. This lake is 3 km uphill hike from harkidoon valley.

day 1 Drive from Dehradun to Sankri

Drive distance: 196 kms | Drive duration: 7-8 Hours

Morning Pick up at railway station and after breakfast transfer from Dehradoon to Sankri. 7 hour drive till Sankri. Camping at Sankri village.

day 2 Sankri – Taluka – Gangar - Seema

Distance: 12 kms drive + xx kms trek | Duration: 1-1.5 Hour Drive, xx houe trek

After breakfast at Sankri short drive to Taluka and then start trekking towards Seema village.

day 3 Seema - Osla - Harkidoon

Trek distance: xx kms | Trek duration: xx hours

After breakfast start to Harkidoon via Osla village. Camping at Harkidoon. Enjoy the day with landscape and panoramic view of Garhwal Himalayas.

day 4 Harkidoon - Morinda Tal - Harkidoon

Trek distance: xx kms each side | Trek duration: xx hours

Ascend to morinda lake. Lunch at morinda lake and sightseeing later descend back to Harkidoon camping site.

day 5 Harkidoon – Osla – Seema

After breakfast Descend to Seema from Harkidoon. Overnight stay at Seema.

tips to stay fit for long treks:

Trekking may be exciting and enjoyable. However, it is also physically taxing and calls for strong physical condition.

For challenging and moderately difficult trails:

  • Begin training 4-5 weeks before you go for trail.
  • Set a training schedule.
  • Cardio 30 -45 minutes (4-5) days a week.
  • Strength training 2 days a week.
  • Once a week try to complete day hike only if possible.
  • Start with a distance of 8-10 kms.
  • Jogging
  • Cycling
  • Stair climbing
  • Swimming
  • Work on your balance.
  • Work on your stamina.
  • Start with an elevation of 1000-1500 Meters.
  • Practice carrying 8-10 kg in your day hike for self sufficient trekking.
  • For best stamina results say no to drugs.
  • Practice uphill trek by stair climbing every day.
